Flight Training with Helicopters Otago
Helicopters Otago Ltd is a great place to start your aviation experience. Training from our Taieri Airfield base we are able to provide the total training experience.
Taieri Airfield is an uncontrolled airfield with low aircraft volumes. This allows the students to gain confidence in a safe environment. The Dunedin International Airport is situated approximately 15 kilometres to the South and this provides experience when operating in controlled airspace.
We can provide training on a wide scale, from an introductory flight (Hands On
Trial Flight) to a private or commercial helicopter licence. Our instructors can
also help you obtain additional rating such as, instructors, sling, Agricultural
and type rating ratings in a wide variety of helicopters.

HUET Training
HUET Training from our Taieri Airfield base Helicopters Otago Limited run HUET (Helicopter Underwater Escape Training) courses. We have our own specifically designed underwater escape module. The course is run in conjunction with the local dive training professionals at their purpose built facility.
The course includes:
- Ditching Simulations
- Straight in Ditch
- Rollover / Inversion
- Rollover / Secondary Exit
- Straight in – Vision Impaired
- Rollover – Vision Impaired
- Sea Survival
- Use of Emergency Flotation Equipment
NVG Training
NVG Training from our Taieri Airfield base Helicopters Otago Limited is authorised to conduct NVG Flight Crew Training under Part 141. We offer an approved NVG Ground Theory Course as well as the required flight component in our NVG approved aircrafts.
Annual Recurrent Training Check can also be completed at Helicopters Otago.
